Involve Traveller Inclusion Workshops

23 November 2022 @ 10:00 am - 4:30 pm

Traveller Culture and Identity Training
Wed 23rd 10am – 12pm
Graduates Memorial Building
TCIP is designed to inform and educate participants about aspects of Irish Traveller History, Irish Traveller Culture and the issues which affect Irish Travellers Today. It is designed to be a useful and creative resource for Travellers and non-Travellers alike. It is an attempt to represent Irish Travellers and their lives in a balanced and non-stereotypical way, using material which has been developed and approved by a steering group consisting of a majority of Irish Travellers, from a range of different backgrounds, genders, ages and LGBTQI+ status. This programme will also give members of the Traveller community and
service providers an opportunity to gain an in-depth knowledge and understanding of what sometimes can be a complex subject, with varied opinions and experiences on issues surrounding Traveller ethnicity and culture. In the words of one steering group member: “We can tell the story of our people. We can bring our culture to life.”

STATUS Toolkit
Wed 23rd 12:30pm
Graduates Memorial Building
From the current life experiences of the Traveller community, organisations and individuals working with the Traveller community will need to take extra and repetitive steps to create the conditions for societal change and organisational excellence in this area. Travellers themselves will require additional supports as they are not a homogenous group but rather broad and
diverse with tailored needs and issues. The purpose of the STATUS Toolkit is to provide a Quality Assurance (QA)Framework whereby youth work organisations can engage in a process of self-evaluation and agree a Continuous Improvement Plan (CIP) to support their youth work practices to be more inclusive of members of the Traveller community. This will help to achieve the best possible outcomes for the engagement, participation and retention of young people from the Traveller community in their projects and activities. By utilising the STATUS Toolkit and agreeing actions, a youth organisation is taking strategic steps within their
services which will ensure better outcomes for Travellers in their personal life
and in society at large.
